The short version
- WhooshType is a desktop app for macOS and Windows that turns your speech into text, plus a cloud service that does the recognition and editing through our server.
- A license costs $4 a month or $29.90 a year, and one account can be used on up to 10 devices at once. Cloud processing is paid from a balance you top up from $5; it is charged at the providers’ current prices plus 20% for payment processing and taxes, and what you pay in never expires. A new account starts with a free trial.
- Payments are processed by Paddle.com, the merchant of record. When you get money back is in the Refund Policy.
- Your dictations are yours. We don’t train on them, and our server keeps none of their text or audio — see the Privacy Policy.
- The text comes from speech-recognition and language models and can be wrong. Read it before you send it.
- The agreement is governed by the law of Serbia. The consumer rights of your own country stay untouched.
1. Who we are and what these terms cover
WhooshType (“the app”, “the service”) is made and operated by , a sole proprietorship (preduzetnik) registered in the Republic of Serbia (“we”, “us”):
Email: [email protected] · Phone: · Web: whooshtype.com
These terms apply to the WhooshType app for macOS and Windows, to the cloud service it uses through our server, to the website whooshtype.com and to your account. You accept them when you install or use the app, sign in, or buy a license or a top-up. If you don’t agree with them, don’t use WhooshType.
You must be at least 16 to use WhooshType and at least 18 to buy anything; under 18, your parent or guardian agrees to these terms for you. If you use WhooshType for a company, you confirm that you may bind it to these terms. The Privacy Policy and the Refund Policy are part of these terms.
2. The service
WhooshType is a desktop app: you hold a key, speak, and the recognized, cleaned-up text is typed into whatever app you are in. Depending on the key, it also translates what you say or — with the Command key — answers a question, writes a message from your words, edits the text you selected or runs one of your automations. It can also transcribe an audio file.
By default the app sends your speech and the text to be edited to our server, which passes them to third-party speech-recognition and language-model providers and returns the result; this is paid from your balance (section 5). On a Mac with Apple Silicon the app can instead run models on your computer: no internet and nothing spent, but slower and less accurate. Local processing needs an active license like everything else; Windows has no local models.
WhooshType is a writing tool. It is not a certified transcription or translation service, and its output is produced by machine-learning models (section 15).
3. Your account and devices
You sign in with your email address: we send a one-time code to it; there is no password. Keep your email account secure — whoever can read it can sign in as you — and tell us at once if you think someone else has used your account.
One account is for one person, and it can be signed in on up to 10 devices at the same time; when you sign in on one device too many, the app asks which one to sign out. Don’t copy, share or tamper with the tokens and license certificates the app keeps. You are responsible for everything done through your account and your devices.
4. The license and prices
The license. Using WhooshType needs an active license. An account has one license; it costs $4 (US dollars) a month or $29.90 a year. It is a subscription: Paddle charges it every month or every year until you cancel. A monthly license can be switched to the yearly one in the app: the year is charged at once, less the unused part of the month, and the new year starts that day. You can cancel in the app or in Paddle’s customer portal; a cancelled license works until the end of the period it was paid for. Without an active license the app stops working — in the cloud and on local models — until you renew; what is stored on your computer stays there.
Starting out. A new account starts with a free trial: the license for 5 days and $1 on the balance to try the cloud, spent before your own money; what is left of the $1 expires after 5 days. There is one trial per computer. The first purchase is the license’s first month or year and $5 on your balance: $9, or $34.90 with the yearly license.
Prices and taxes. Prices are in US dollars. Where your country requires it, Paddle adds VAT, sales tax or a similar tax; the checkout shows the total before you pay. We may change the license price with at least 30 days’ notice by email or in the app; the new price applies from your first renewal after that, and you can cancel before then.
5. Balance and cloud usage
Cloud processing is paid from a prepaid balance on your account, which you top up from $5 at a time. The balance never expires, and it stays with your account while your license is not active.
Each cloud request — a dictation, a translation, a request with the Command key, a file transcription — is charged at the providers’ current prices for the services it used (speech recognition, language models, web search) plus 20%. That 20% goes to payment processing and taxes; there are no other fees, no “credits” and no “tokens”. Providers’ prices change from time to time; a request is charged at the price in force when it is made. The app shows your balance and the license term in your account.
Providers, models and rates. Which providers and models we use for each service, and at what rates, is our confidential business information: we don’t disclose it, and we may change providers, models and rates at any time without notice. The Privacy Policy names the companies that process your data, as the law requires.
Before each request the server reserves what it could cost; a request your balance cannot cover is refused rather than run. We also apply daily safety caps to protect your balance from runaway use; if you hit one, write to us.
Auto top-up. You can ask the app to top up your balance automatically: when it falls to $1 or less, Paddle charges the amount you chose (from $5) to the payment method of your subscription. You can change the amount or turn it off at any time in the app.
The balance is not money in a bank account: it cannot be withdrawn, transferred or used for anything but WhooshType, and it is refunded only as the Refund Policy says.
6. Payments and Paddle
Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Paddle provides all customer service inquiries and handles returns.
In plain words: when you buy a license or a top-up, you buy it from Paddle (Paddle.com Market Limited in the UK, or Paddle.com Inc. in the US), which resells WhooshType and is responsible for the payment, the invoice, the taxes and the refund. Paddle’s Checkout Buyer Terms and Privacy Policy apply to the purchase; these terms apply to the use of WhooshType. Paddle sends the receipts and gives you a customer portal (linked from every receipt, or at paddle.net) to see your payments, change the payment method and cancel.
Our server grants a license and credits a balance only when Paddle confirms the payment. If a payment is reversed — a refund, a chargeback — the license it paid for ends and the balance it added is removed. For a problem with a payment, write to us first ([email protected]) or to Paddle at paddle.net.
7. Invites
We sometimes give invite codes to friends and testers. An invite gives a license with no end date and an allowance of cloud usage for each period, paid by us; whatever is unused at the end of a period expires, and an allowance cannot be turned into balance or money. Invites are a courtesy: we may change, pause or end one at any time; a code works once and only for the person we gave it to.
8. Your content
Your dictations, the texts you ask the app to edit or translate, the files you transcribe, your dictionary, snippets, automations and modes are yours; we claim no rights in them. To provide the service, you let us and the providers we use receive, process and return your content as the Privacy Policy describes, and for nothing else: we don’t use it to train models and we don’t sell it. Our server keeps none of its text or audio — except that a request made with the Command key stays in its memory for up to 30 minutes, and the feedback you choose to send on an answer is kept for 90 days to make the answers better.
You are responsible for your content and for where the result goes: that you have the right to dictate or upload it (a recording of other people, for example), that it breaks no law, and that you check the text before it reaches anyone.
9. Acceptable use
Don’t use WhooshType:
- for anything illegal, or to harass, defraud, impersonate or spy on anyone — including by recording people you have no right to record;
- against the usage rules of the model providers we rely on; a provider may refuse such a request, and we may close an account that sends them;
- to get around licenses, device limits, caps or billing, or to use someone else’s account;
- to overload or probe our server or interfere with other users; automated use is allowed only through the app and its documented integration (section 10);
- to copy, modify, decompile or reverse-engineer the app, extract its prompts or keys, or build a competing service on it — except to the extent the law gives you that right regardless of these terms;
- to resell, rent or share your license or account.
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these rules (section 14).
10. Automations and integrations
WhooshType lets you create automations — voice commands, said with the Command key, that open links, run files, scripts and shell commands, call webhooks or macOS Shortcuts — and it lets AI agents on your computer (for example Claude Code, through WhooshType’s command-line tool and MCP server) create and run them. They run on your computer, with your user’s permissions, and only after you allowed them in the app.
You decide what these automations do and you are responsible for the result — including an automation written by an agent or taken from someone else. We don’t review them, and we don’t answer for the scripts, webhooks or third-party tools they call; those come with their own terms.
11. The software license
We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the WhooshType app on the devices signed in to your account, for as long as you have an active license and keep to these terms. We keep all other rights to the app, the service, the name WhooshType and the logo.
We release new versions on whooshtype.com; some are needed to keep working with our server, and an update can change or remove features. The app contains open-source components under their own licenses. If you send us ideas or feedback, we may use them without owing you anything.
12. Third-party providers and local models
The cloud service relies on third-party providers that our server calls on your behalf — speech recognition, language models, web search, email delivery, hosting, Cloudflare and Paddle. The Privacy Policy names them and says what each one receives. We choose providers that don’t train on customers’ data, we may change them and their models at any time, and the service depends on their availability and their rules. The local models on a Mac are open models from third parties that run entirely on your computer under their own licenses.
13. Availability and changes to the service
We work to keep the service running but don’t promise that it is uninterrupted or error-free: there is maintenance, there are provider outages, and this is a small company. We may change, add or remove features, modes, models and the apps supported. If we discontinue the service altogether, we give you at least 30 days’ notice by email and refund the unused balance.
14. Ending the agreement
You can stop at any time: cancel your license (it works until the end of the paid period), sign out and delete the app. To delete your account and its data on our server, write to [email protected]: we close it at once and keep its records for one more year to detect abuse of the service, as the Privacy Policy explains (section 10).
We may suspend or close your account — with notice where we reasonably can — if you break these terms, if a payment is reversed, if the law or a provider requires it, or if the account is used for fraud or abuse. When we close an account for a breach, nothing is refunded for the current license period, and the unused balance is refunded unless the breach involved fraud, chargebacks or illegal use. When we close an account for any other reason, we refund the unused part of the current license period and the unused balance. The sections that by their nature should outlive the agreement stay in force after it ends.
15. Disclaimers and liability
WhooshType’s output comes from speech-recognition and language models. They can mishear, drop or add words, mistranslate, change the meaning, and invent facts in answers and messages — more often with names, numbers, rare words and noisy audio. Treat the app as a writing tool: read the text before you send it, and don’t rely on it where an error can hurt — medical, legal, financial or safety matters, or as a record of what was said.
To the extent the law allows, the service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose, uninterrupted availability or compatibility with every app and website. We are liable to you only for direct damage caused by our breach of these terms, up to the amount you paid for WhooshType in the 12 months before the event, and not for indirect or consequential loss, lost profits, data or business, for what you or your automations do with the output, or for provider outages beyond our control. Nothing in these terms limits our liability for intent or gross negligence, for death or personal injury, or for anything that cannot be limited under the law that applies to you. If you are a consumer, your statutory rights and warranties are not affected by this section.
16. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of Serbia, and disputes go to the competent court in Belgrade — unless you are a consumer in a country whose law lets you sue and be sued at home; then that law’s mandatory protections and its courts are open to you as well. We would rather settle things by email first: write to [email protected] and we answer within two business days. Your purchases from Paddle are governed by Paddle’s Buyer Terms.
17. Changes to these terms, and the small print
We may update these terms when the service or the law changes. This page shows the date they took effect; for material changes we tell you in the app or by email at least 14 days before they apply. If you keep using WhooshType after that, the new terms apply; if you don’t agree with them, cancel your license before they take effect and stop using the app.
If a part of these terms turns out to be invalid, the rest stays in force. We may transfer this agreement to a successor of the business; you may not transfer it. Not enforcing a term once is not giving it up. These terms are written in English; a translation is for convenience only.
